FAQs

Q) Can you ship a kit outside of the lower 48 states?

A) Aerosols, generally speaking, cannot go on airplanes. Much of today’s shipments can end up on airplanes. Therefore businesses (and individuals for that matter) are limited to what they can ship.  Remember, you can always purchase the How To Paint Your Rims eGUIDE. If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Q) Can you deliver to a PO Box?

A) No. The USPS will not accept FedEx packages. We use FedEx Ground for all shipments. Contact Us to make alternative arrangements.

GENERAL INFO

Q) How long will it take to paint my rims?

A) Customers with access to enough basic tools to get all 4 wheels off the vehicle should allow for 4 – 6hrs from start to finish. Realistically, plan on 1/2 a day from the time your remove your wheels to the time they’re mounted again.

Q) I can't decide on a color or whether or not to go flat or gloss? Can you help?

A) Contact Us and let us know what vehicle you have, what color it is, and what your plans are for it. We should be able to help.

Q) Do I have to remove the tires to paint the wheels?

A) No. The guide is written assuming you will leave the tire on the rim. If the tire does happen to be off the rim, the job is a little easier.

Q) Can I paint my chrome rims?

A) Yes. Follow the prep instructions in my guide; the use of etching primer (provided in my kit) will enable you to paint over chrome.

Q) What about my center cap and/or lug nuts – can I paint them too?

A) Yes. Prep and paint the center cap as you would the rim. Most customers leave the lugnuts as-is which is a good idea.

Q) Do you offer special colors?

A) If you would like to buy a color that's not listed, please contact us.

Q) Can I spray my rims while they are still mounted to the vehicle?

A) Sure…but you are placing your vehicle’s paint job at great risk for overspray. Even with blankets, paper, and tape, overspray can find its way onto all sorts of things in the garage. So do your ride a favor, take the time to remove the rims from the vehicle and spray them.

Q) I want to de-chrome my bumpers, etc. Do you offer a bumper kit?

A) Any of our kits can be used to spray chrome/metal bumpers. In fact, you’ll use just about everything included in the rim painting kit for use on bumpers or for painting other stuff too.

TECHNICAL INFO

Q) How do I mask off places on my wheel that I don't want to paint, or that I would like to paint a different color later?

A) There are a few tricks to masking off areas of a wheel, but this is one of the best.

Q) Can I have a chrome or aluminum "lip" and then paint the rest of the wheel?

A) Yes. Included with every kit is an ample supply of professional masking tape which means you can mask off a lip, paint the rest of the wheel, then remove the tape to expose the lip. Check this out.

Q) I am looking to have a happy medium between FLAT and GLOSS. If I order your FLAT BLACK kit with gloss clear-coat, will that do the trick?

A) In this case I would order a semi-gloss black kit.

Q) Isn’t powdercoating better?

A) Check out my blog entry about this topic.

Q) How do I clean painted wheels?

A) If you used a rimpainter kit to paint your wheels (which ensures you have a durable, protected finish) then you can treat your wheels like you would your car; as you wash it, use a soft-bristled brush and soap on the wheels. Do NOT use "wheel cleaner in a can" as harsh chemicals can stain even unpainted alloy wheels.

Q) Should I use clearcoat?

A) Yes. This is what can happen if you do not use clearcoat. Clearcoat improves durability and resists the elements. Your wheel is subjected to a great deal of abuse if you think about it – heat, brake dust, water, vibration, rocks, etc. And if you’re like me, you’re constantly trying to keep your ride(s) clean, which means scrubbing the wheels with a brush. Clearcoat helps keep the paint protected. All of our kits come with an ample supply of clearcoat.

Q) The climate right now in my hometown falls outside of the recommended “ideal spray zone” for temperature and humidity. What should I do?

A) It’s possible to “improve” your spray environment through the use of hairdryers, heaters, halogen shop lights, and placing wheels out in the sun, etc. Just be careful spraying around heat sources.

Q) I want to spray the inside of my rims as well – what do I need to order?

A) Contact us for a special deal. We'll get you hooked up.

RETURNS

Q) What is your return policy?

A) This is taken on a case-by-case basis. We're here to work with our customers. However, we're also running a business. Generally speaking we will issue a full refund for all unused, returned product minus our actual cost to ship it to you in the first place. If you have a problem with your wheels after following the eGUIDE and applying the product properly, contact us and we can troubleshoot the situation together.

PRIVACY

Q) What's your privacy policy?

A) We hate spam just as much as you do. That being said, we will only use personal information such as email, snail mail, or any other info for that matter to complete your transaction or respond to your inquiry. We are in the process of developing an official Privacy Policy, but until then rest assured your information is safe with us.
