About Us

Where we came from.

The Rocketship team is a group of highly driven entrepreneurs, designers, software architects, and Internet marketing experts who have been working in this industry since the early 90's. We started out doing traditional print design, and then quickly morphed into a full-service web and interactive design studio as soon as the Internet became a chic place for designers to express their creativity.

We've spent most of the last decade creating killer websites, corporate identities, and other cool interactive media for larger companies through LUMINOUS, our sister company. We have a passion for creating extraordinary design solutions, and we work really hard to turn out an exceptional end product for every one of our clients.

About six years ago, Luminous started developing easy-to-use content management tools based on the needs of our enterprise level clients. They wanted the ability to make changes to their website content on-the-fly, without having to call us, or wrecking the layout by trying to edit the source code themselves. But the content management software (CMS) available at the time was very complex and difficult to use. So we said, "What the heck—let's build our own!"

Ten trillion hours and five hundred "going postal" episodes later, we produced a tool that most of our clients still use today. It's called Orchestrate™ CMS, and it has been extremely popular with our clients. It is really flexible, and we tailor each installation to their individual requirements on a case-by-case basis. Orchestrate has been an excellent solution for these enterprise level clients.

How Rocketship was born.

But what about our increasing base of small business customers—the backbone of the U.S. economy—who can't afford to purchase and support enterprise-level software and services? Utilizing everything we'd learned while building sophisticated web solutions for our enterprise clients, we set out to create a solution that would fit the needs of the average small business, and Rocketship was born.

The idea behind Rocketship was to provide the average small business with a way to have a great-looking site AND a super easy-to-use content management tool to maintain it. We also knew that we couldn't expect our customers to deal with the technical intricacies and costs of running their own servers, so we decided to build it as a hosted software solution and charge a reasonable monthly fee. In return, we manage it, improve it with new tools and features, provide training and tech support, and allow our clients to focus on their core business instead.

The final frontier.

We set out to create a complete small business website solution that would respect the pocketbooks of small businesses, while producing a very nice-looking end product that they could then manage on their own.

We realize that there are thousands of designers out there that will build a site for next to nothing. (And that's just in the United States, not to mention all the vendors overseas!) But we know from our own experience that it's very difficult to find a talented designer who not only creates a site that looks good, but also provides an easy-to-use management tool that will help you grow your business at the same time.
